Steps to take after a rental car accident in Arizona

Numerous people travel to Arizona every year to see the sites. Many of these people will need to acquire a rental car to see the Grand Canyon or visit beautiful Avondale, and some of those rental cars will end up in the over 100,000 car crashes that occur every year in the state.

Many people are at a loss for what to do following a collision involving a rental car. To protect yourself further from such instances, you should always acquire the rental car insurance beforehand. It may cost a little extra, but it will be hugely advantageous if you ever find yourself in such a situation.

Contact various institutions

Similarly to any other accident, you want to call the police to come out to the scene and file an accident report. After calling them, you want to contact the rental car company. You should have the company's contact information readily available in the vehicle. You will also need to get in touch with your own auto insurance agency. In the event you have comprehensive and collision coverage, then your own insurance may help cover any of the damages.

Exchange information and take pictures

As you wait for the police to arrive, you should speak with the other driver. Make sure everyone in the other vehicle is all right. Even if everyone is fine and the damage seems minimal, you should still swap insurance information. Give the other driver the contact information for the rental car company. You also want to collect evidence, such as taking pictures, at this time because it can help with your claim.

Follow instructions from your insurance provider

See a doctor after a car crash just in case you have any injuries you are not aware of yet. Afterward, you want to follow the insurance provider's instructions, which can involve filing a claim. For instance, you may need to pay a deductible to cover the damages before the insurance kicks in. You may also need to submit the police report to your insurance company, too.
