104,000 Mercedes recalled for air bag problems

No driver purchases a luxury automobile expecting that it will be flawed. In fact, this is precisely why people spend more to drive expensive cars like Mercedes-Benz or Lexus. After all, just the brand names imply quality, and the vehicles tend to drive better than anything else on the road.

But auto manufacturers are run and manned by humans, and people are prone to making errors. When these errors translate into serious problems, and especially when they threaten the safety of drivers, passengers and others on the road, the vehicle manufacturers or government regulators announce recalls of the defective cars.

In most cases, the manufacturer will offer owners free repairs and invite them to bring their cars into the dealership to resolve the issues. This is what happened in a Mercedes-Benz recall announced in December 2018. The recall affected 104,000 Mercedes-AMG vehicles, SUVs and hybrids. The problem threatened the safety of passengers in the event of a collision.

According to the automaker, the deactivation status of the passenger-side, front air bag might not display correct information. As a result, drivers and passengers might wrongly assume that the passenger-side, front air bag is activated, when it is not. This could result in serious injuries if no one knows to activate the air bag and a crash occurs. Mercedes-Benz announced that owners of the affected vehicles can go to their local dealerships for simple software fixes to resolve the issue.

If you suspect that you or your loved one were hurt in an auto collision that resulted from a defective automobile, investigate your legal rights and options. You might be able to pursue a claim for damages.
