Pedestrian dies after car accident

A pedestrian in Arizona is dead after he tried to cross the street at an intersection in Phoenix and got hit by a car.

According to reports, the crash happened early on Thursday, Feb. 28. The authorities were still at the scene at 3:00 a.m. when they pronounced the man dead. He was just 37 years old.

The driver of the car is 45 years old. Though a crash at that time in the morning may make people assume that alcohol was involved, reports did say that the driver wasn’t impaired. They are still investigating the crash, and it will be interesting to keep an eye on the story moving forward to see just why the incident occurred.

This accident is not an isolated one, at least not in Arizona. Worryingly, reports have recently pointed out that Arizona’s rate of pedestrian deaths is one of the highest that you can find in the entire country. It’s only getting worse. In 2017, for example, 112 pedestrians died in car accidents during the first half of the year. In 2018, that number jumped to 125.

What can pedestrians do to stay safe in such a dangerous state? They should avoid distractions, wear bright colors, only cross at the crosswalk and never listen to headphones as they walk. They need to know that the risks are very high, and staying vigilant is the best way to avoid a fatal crash.

Of course, though pedestrians should try to stay safe, nothing guarantees that a driver won’t make a deadly mistake. When this happens, the family needs to know if they have a right to financial compensation for funeral costs and other expenses.
