Driving while tired can have catastrophic consequences

The choices an Arizona driver makes behind the wheel can have significant consequences for others nearby. Most drivers are aware of the dangers associated with distracted driving or driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but many underestimate the risk of driving while fatigued. Drowsy driving significantly increases the chance of an accident that could lead to injury or death.

The impact of sleep deprivation

A sleepy driver typically has a diminished capacity to make smart decisions while behind the wheel. Studies find that drowsy drivers display some of the same behaviors as drunk drivers, including swerving, driving at erratic speeds and more. Fatigue is said to have played a role in thousands of accidents each year that resulted in an injury or fatality.

A recent poll found that some drivers considered Arizona to be one of the most dangerous states for drowsy driving. Everyone who operates a vehicle is responsible for making choices that do not needlessly endanger others in or near the road. This means knowing when one is unable to safely drive due to fatigue or other factors.

The rights of injured drivers

Those who are injured in car accidents are often suffering due to the negligent or reckless actions of other drivers. Whether the cause of a crash is due to fatigue or other reason, injured parties may benefit from seeking an assessment of their case to determine what legal options are available. The civil justice system provides car accident victims the option of seeking compensation through a claim against the party believed responsible.
