Fatal motorcycle accident caused by impaired driver

Arizona drivers are responsible for the decisions they make while behind the wheel, particularly those that cause harm to innocent individuals. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to injuries in the event of an accident, and it is critical for motorists to drive safely around these types of vehicles. A recent fatal accident caused by an impaired driver illustrates what can happen when a motorist makes the decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.

Consequences of running a red light

A group of motorcycles was traveling north on a Phoenix-area street when a driver ran a red light and collided with the group. The driver of the vehicle was attempting to turn left when she directly struck one of the young men on his bike. The biker who was struck died at the scene from his injuries, and others in the group were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. One of the bikers was able to avoid the collision and record the driver’s actions.

Video evidence suggests that she exited her vehicle and attempted to walk away from the scene after the crash. Police stated that the driver had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. Although the driver refused to take a Breathalyzer, she did admit to investigators that she had been drinking. A blood sample was taken after she was in custody.

What can victims do?

The reckless actions of this driver resulted in death and serious injuries for innocent bikers. Family members of the deceased and those injured in this crash may have the option to seek justice through the Arizona civil justice system. Those who may have a valid claim will benefit from seeking an understanding of their legal options.
