Speeding and impairment suspected in fatal car accident

There are several types of unsafe driving habits that can affect one’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Those who exhibit behaviors such as excessive speeding or driving while impaired may be more likely to create a hazardous situation and there may be an even greater risk of a collision when drivers combine such dangerous behaviors. Speeding and impairment were listed as contributing factors in a recent car accident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman in Arizona.

Multiple-vehicle crash

Law enforcement agents have advised that the collision took place at around 7:30 p.m. on a recent Sunday. They say it began when the driver of a southbound car suddenly crashed into the rear end of a nearby pickup truck while traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact reportedly forced the truck to veer into oncoming lanes of traffic and crash head-on with a third vehicle.

Reports indicate that the driver of the truck was ejected from the vehicle in the process and authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations indicate that the driver of the car was traveling at nearly double the speed limit at the time of the crash and authorities have advised that she exhibited numerous signs of impairment. She is facing multiple charges following the crash, including driving while under the influence and second-degree murder.

Seeking restitution

Losing a loved one in a car accident involving similar types of negligence can be a challenging thing to accept. Family members who are left grieving over an untimely loss under similar scenarios may face an understandable desire for justice. They have every right to consult with an attorney for guidance in evaluating their available options for legal recourse. An attorney in Arizona can provide a client with insight into what to expect from the process and assist in preparing to seek the restitution deserved through a wrongful death claim.
